Fritz Demopoulos has been involved in the Chinese internet and media industries for nearly a decade. Fritz sold China's first banner advertisement to Ogilvy & Mather in 1997 as part of the IBM account. He is currently the CEO and Cofounder of Qunar.com, a leading travelsearch engine in Beijing. Qunaris one of China's leading online travel media with over 30 million monthly unique visitors and venture-backed by Tenaya Capital, Mayfield and GSR. Qunar means “where are you going?” in Mandarin Chinese. Prior to Qunar, Fritz was the SVP of Business Development at Netease.com, one of China's leading internet portals and online game companies. In 2002, Netease was the best performing equity on the NASDAQ exchange. Fritz was also the CEO and Cofounder of sports portal Shawei.com, which was venture backed by Intel, IDG and Softbank. Shawei, which means “brave shark” in Mandarin Chinese, was profitably acquired by Tom.com in 2000. He began his career in China with The News Corporation Limited where he was involved with a range of News Corp companiesincluding Twentieth Century Fox, STAR TV, NDS and ChinaByte. A native of Los Angeles, Fritz was educated at UCLA, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Karls-Ruprecht University in Germany. He is a supporter of the Arsenal Gunners of the English Premier League. |
