Azran was appointed CEO of AirAsia X, the world’s first truly low-cost long-haul airline in July 2007, following a career at satellite broadcaster, Astro; McKinsey & Company; and undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Stanford University.
He and his team are responsible for building the foundations of the company, from the first business plan draft to the purchase of aircraft and business launch. Today, Air Asia X is a public-listed company and has carried over 12 million passengers since inception.
AirAsia X now flies to nineteen destinations across the Asia Pacific region – breaking many long-haul airline conventions and pioneering various innovative services, including the world’s first LCC flatbed seats that won the 2013 World’s Best Low Cost Premium Seat award by Skytrax.
Even with its nascent aircraft fleet, AirAsia X operates with the world’s lowest airline unit cost and the world’s highest aircraft utilization, while maintaining industry leading engineering reliability and on-time performance.
